Bio

Dr Majid Sorouri is an Assistant Professor in Electronic Engineering at Maynooth University and Programme Director of the MSc in Robotics and Embedded AI. His research focuses on intelligent robotic systems, embedded artificial intelligence, and human-centred automation.

He received his PhD in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and his MSc in Intelligent Manufacturing Systems from the University of Birmingham, UK. Before joining Maynooth University, he served as an Assistant Professor of Electronic Engineering at SRBIAU for over nine years, collaborating with industry on robotics, automation, and intelligent manufacturing projects.

At Maynooth University, his research explores the integration of robotics and artificial intelligence to address real-world challenges in sustainable production systems. His current work focuses on AI-enabled robotic systems for agriculture, human–robot interaction, and assistive technologies.

A central theme of his research is inclusive agriculture, where robotics and AI are designed to support elderly and disabled individuals in maintaining active roles in gardening, farming and food production. This work combines robotics, intelligent sensing, and human-centred interface design to create accessible and sustainable agricultural technologies.

Dr Sorouri is a member of the AURA (Automating Regenerative Agriculture) research group at Maynooth University, which develops robotic and AI technologies to support regenerative and sustainable farming practices.

In addition to his research activities, he contributes to teaching and curriculum development in robotics, embedded AI, and intelligent systems, and works closely with industry partners to develop applied robotics and automation solutions.
