Over the last number of years the importance of ‘digitizing’ the organization and of implementing a ‘digital strategy’ has been identified as one of, if not the most, important strategic decisions the organization must now make to remain competitive and to survive in a rapidly changing business landscape. The purpose of this paper is to explore this idea and to examine what it means for an organization to ‘digitize’ or to become ‘digital’ i.e. what are the key characteristics, and what capabilities are required to do this successfully?
